A team approach in the care of patients with oesophageal cancers
Karen Baily Tenovus esophaegal gastric oncology nurse specialist, TENOVUS the Cancer Charity at University Hospital of Wales and Velindre NHS Trust, Cardiff
Susan Morgan Macmillan clinical nurse specialist, Hospital palliative care team at University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff
This article describes how an oncology nurse specialist (ONS) post was created to work with patients suffering from oesophageal cancer across three hospital sites. The outcome for this form of cancer is poor and patients require high quality, comprehensive care which can best be delivered within a multidisciplinary team (MDT). The ONS must therefore integrate into the MDT and this article illustrates that process.
